I went to a solar talk the other night.
The speaker said a car getting 50 mpg creates 5.5 tons of CO2/year. 25 mpg =11 tons, etc.

I'm not sure there is anything close to oil out there. We can go renewables for electricity production, but we don't have a lot of electric vehicles on the road. Brazil is using mostly (sugar cane) ethanol for their vehicle fleet, and they want to export some here. That could be a good bet, as is biodiesel from algae (10-20K gal/acre) hemp or coconut palm (both around 600-700 gal/acre). Corn only gives about 70.
Hydrogen is awful; EROEI is about 0.7, so you lose energy making it.
