That's why I posted that article.

While it's true the implementations of persistent solid state memory have changed over the years (as have the implementations of mechanical disks) that crossover where solid state would replace moving parts has always remained a couple of years away.

Note that the 24 year old article was discussing the surprise felt by many that the crossover hadn't happened by 1981!

Yet here we are, decades later, and the crossover is still expected very soon.

I agree that it will happen eventually, but I doubt it will happen for at least another decade.
