So, you want the government to study how bad it's going to be and hector people to save more. That works for me.

Of course people saving more will bring the problem on sooner so we should also be looking for ways to increase exports and advocate those, as well.

As for slowing it down, I have no ideas. Do you?

What do I think needs to be done? .....some honest research ...... how badly this will impact our social safety net. What to do for citizens? .....having people save more to protect themselves from economic downturns. ......I'm absolutely sure they haven't prepared for what is coming down the pike wrt globalization. Since I live in the US, it's in my interest to want other people to be prepared, even if the government needs to get involved and give tax incentives or fund programs, to make them prepared. I just don't want to live in the US if people are going to be as ill prepared as they are right now. Of course I can leave the country, but not everyone can- and those people should be really worried (imo).

All of these are good suggestions.

But we need to put a lot of this stuff into perspective.

1. Saving money and be prepared for economic bad times is something that everybody can do to a certain extent. This would be terrific even if nothing else is done.

2. There are somethings only governments can do. We are in the early stages of learning how to govern ourselves. It is natural that a lot of mistakes are made. There are a lot of times government action is inefficient, inappropriate, and can be done better by individuals. But government is not going away. It is here to stay and what we need to do is make sure that government gets better.

3. Similarly, globalization is here to stay. Dislocation is inevitable. A lot of people will get hurt by it. But, guess what? At the end of the day, there will be a lot of benefits.

The trick is to get out in front of it and be the first in line to benefit from it.

India and China do not have any advantages. They come in at the tail end of the industrial revolution. They are playing catch up. But guess what? Just as they are learning to play that game, the game has already changed - only they don't know it yet.

We are entering the digital age.

I don't have a crystal ball.

I don't know what is going to happen.

But, I know things are going to be different.

There will be a new set of winners and a new set of losers.

My bet is on us. The United States of America. But, there is an if.

This current administration and the Evangelical zealots have to be contained. We are squandering our wealth and losing our focus as to where we have to be.

I am not against religion. I think religion has its place. It belongs in the places of worship set aside for them. It has a place in the homes of those who believe. It does not belong in government. It does not belong in science.

Also, I do not automatically hate Bush. In fact, I like George H W Bush. I think I like Jeb and George Prescott Bush. I think I also like Laura Bush. But, I don't care for George W. Bush, the twins, and Barbara Bush.

Anyone remember Reagan saying that when a job was phased out that person should be ready to pick up and move to an area where there were jobs. Of course I am paraphrasing and these were not his exact words but the message was the same.

At the time I was in teaching. However, I had readied myself to be in social work and other occupations by getting certified so that I felt, phase me out of one job, and I will get another. Even if it meant moving to another part of the Country.

Boone NC for example is a place where there are many jobs available NOW.. that may change as more and more people find the area.
