MP3 players are a new way to listen to music. iPods are a fad. Just ask some kids.

A kid knows what a fad is? Kids haven't yet lived through fads, they're in the middle of their early experiences, which may include fads - but they have no concept of what is or is not going to be a fad. Kids are not the majority of iPod users anyway.

It appears to me that the iPod/iTunes/iTMS system, third party accessories, and automobile accommodations JUST for the iPod are an economy. This economy has legs and likely continuing innovation on Apple's part will keep that economy moving up.

This is a fad?

Not so. They're even being used in college courses now--for instance a friend learning Chinese at an Ivy League uses her nano to download, learn pronunciation, record her own and email the recordings to her teacher for a grade.

They're not a fad, they're a new tool with many applications. And because ITunes is so seamless and good, and the design of Ipods so beautiful, they're likely to stay way ahead of the curve of imitators.

From dictionary.com

fad-A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze.

The iPod has been around for 4 years. It would appear that it is no longer in fad territory.
