pomp, I've noticed that people that come from sections of the country where it's normal to speak with a drawl will tend to lose the drawl with exposure to northern type accents. When they're subjected to stress and or fatigue the more pronounced accent tends to reassert itself..... Bush has been under a great deal of stress for the majority of his term.... I think I'll let it slide that he's not a great speaker <g>.

Bush's "dumbed down" talk appeals to the below average mind - which ensures him Republican votes - probably another Rove political calculation.
