UNLESS, of course your skin color, accent, racial background, religious persuasion or whatever, get you targetted for NEGATIVE ACTION, in which case your comment is most likely to be experienced as "a load of crap".

But I take it you have not had much of a problem with NEGATIVE ACTION so all that AFFIRMATIVE STUFF seems like BS to you.


I suppose I have been targeted for "negative action," being part of a "protected class" and all. I've had jokes targeting my "protected class" made in my presence, could have been denied a job or promotion, who knows. It doesn't make any difference to me.

Much more offensive to me is the presumption that my accomplishments are the result of "affirmative action" or "diversity," which I have also experienced.

Imo, the paternalistic attitude that prevails in the U.S. towards persons of certain race or nationality is more detrimental than simply allowing the free market to run its course. If a person is continually told that he/she can't measure up to others based on merit, it should come as no surprise if that person doesn't measure up to others based on merit.
