I'll tell you the biggest example of modern free-market bastardization by the Bush Adminstration and many other previous adminstraitons, the subsidizing of the bloody oil trade. Without military protection, oil would be far more expensive right now and have to compete with real-world alternatives like biofuels, hydrogen and electric. Electric is much cheaper than oil (80% cheaper) and would likely take over automotive tranportation if the U.S. government wasn't bastardizing the energy markets by sending our troops around the world to protect the oil supplies.

Oil is a subsidized commodity. Without the public military protection subsidy, probably worth about $1.00 per gallon or so, oil would be on its way out of existence right now. Time to level the playing field in energy and allow the free market to work.
