There was a deadline for Iraq to get out of Kuwait, and the security council agreed with the need for an invasion. Not the case for Mr. Bush's war.

I recall that there was a 90 day deadline for Iraq to fully disclose the status of its WMD and rocket program to the UNMOVIC inspectors (to begin within 45 days of the passing of UNSC 1441).

The fact that those very same UNMOVIC inspectors presented the UNSC with a 175 page of violations and continued areas of non-compliance by Iraq on March 6th, 2003

un.org;

And BTW, just what do you think the UNSC meant by "serious consequences" in the first place?

A pat on the hand and a smack on the @ss and then having Saddam stand in the corner for a "time out"??

NOBODY who voted for UNSC 1441 had ANY DOUBTS that Bush was prepared to go to war over this (thus making it THEIR war) as well.. Obviously France and Russian hoped to thwart Bush's goal to bring Saddam into compliance either voluntarily, or by force, so that they could maintain their sweetheart multi hundred BILLION oil deals with Saddam (which he threatened to cancel in January, 2003 if they didn't oppose Bush).

And Bush ALREADY had the US Congress' support via an "authorization to use force" (thus making it just as much "Mr. Daschle's war" as it GWB..)..

Btw, for Desert Storm, the congress didn't authorize use of force until AFTER the UNSC resolution 678 was issued. In fact, the authorization came 3 days before the commencement of hostilities.
