I'm not a big fan of corn. I've seen various studies saying different things but the EROEI is marginal, whether positive or negative.
But, if you start with material that gives you 10X the output, EROEI goes way up. I don't know diddley about palm, but hemp is much less input intensive than corn; no pesticides or herbicides, and not much in the way of fertilizers.

I think the thing corn has going for it is ADM, going back to Papa Shrub. Maybe Cargill, too.

Nothing - making ethanol from corn is just welfare for corn farmers - it doesn't pay it's own way.
