By your admission we don't know what transpired in those meetings, and there were only a few of them. Saddam himself met with the US, including Rumsfeld, many many more times than Saddam's people met with Al Qaeda.

The discussion is unknown. Therefore it is wrong to surmise that Iraq and Al Qaeda plotted against the US. We know that Saddam and the US plotted against the Soviets and Iran cause we were there, but we have no proof of what went on in those alleged meetings with Al Qaeda.

Bush made a statement that requires knowledge of what transpired during the meetings. He had none. Therefore he may have surmised what went on, but he didn't know. His CIA said there was no collaboration.

Which makes the statement "we removed an ally of Al Qaeda" unknowable, or a lie.

Bush lied.

For all we know, Saddam's men who met with Al Qaeda were plotting with UBL to take out Saddam.
