The primary group doing such killing, at least once the initial invasion was over, is the insurgents.

From what I saw on the news tonight the mercenaries that we have hired take sport in shooting civilians, smug in their knowledge that no transgression will be punished.

They are killing bystanders, and children, and people who are just trying to be left alone.

Certainly American military action and that of our allies in Iraq has resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians but far less then would normally be expected in such a war. The US has made an unusual level of effort to avoid civilian casualties. Unfortunately our opponents do not make such an effort.

You make what we are doing sound like good will work. The truth is we have killed plenty of innocent civilians....maybe not as many as the insurgents.......but enough. We have also been the perpetrators of torture.

In the meantime, we have stirred up the hate of many millions of people. Even the best intentioned of efforts would have to think twice as to whether the cost is worth it. Most sane people conclude it has not been.

Time to bring the troops home and for Bush and company to admit they screwed up.
