There has never been an ethnic cleansing where the oppressor neglected to write up a law and make it official first. Not even the Nazis or Soviets. Our current immigration law is probably far more defective than the worst tripe issued by any propaganda ministry. It makes the Volstead Act look profound by comparison. But my point really is not whether they should do it or not (though I think they should not.) It's that, after the drunken binge of demagoguery from the irresponsible conservatives, a group of 535 congresspersons-who in NO WAY resemble a Reichstag or a Politboro-is going to be faced with the question of uprooting 8 to 10 million perfectly good citizens (and far better than some OTHER groups, BTW) at great expense, and dumping them onto someone else's country (one which already has enough intractable problems.) They're not gonna DO IT. It's not IN THEM. And let us all get on our knees and thank God that it is not...

There has been some mention of revoking the provision that gives citizenship to babies born on American soil. Perhaps that would alleviate some of the drive for illegals to cross over our borders. I don't know whether that is a constitutional provision or not. I hope not. We do not need a constitutional convention right now. Not every illegal is a criminal by my definition. Some are simply dreamers of freedom.
