If he said "one plus one equals two", or "the sky is blue", you would change your mind about those things.

An argument is independent of the person making it. Something isn't wrong just because the person stating it is someone you don't like or trust. Of course it could be wrong anyway but nothing you can say about the person making the statement really supports the contention that the statement is false.
