I think it's important to go to the donkey's mouth, too. And the elephant's mouth. But some mouths spew incomprehensible stuff. You don't learn anything by reading spew. All you learn is that there a lot of irrational people in the world. If you want to learn what the left is thinking, go to reputable lefty sites where there is evidence of actual thinking. If you hang out at places like moveon, it only makes you more frightened and hostile and likely to demonize everyone who doesn't agree with you. It may be useful to check in every few months for ten minutes to see if they're still as irrational as ever. More than that IMO is not healthy or constructive. That's why a group I belong to, and I support, does whatever we can for the Veterans, the families, and our active Military. That's all well and good, but it doesn't speak to my question about why the news media should make a big deal about the huge losses in Vietnam. We all use sources to form opinions. When I said it might not meet your criteria I meant that information provided by a guest is not evidence of the media outlet providing the information you want them to provide, not as it would be had the outlet directly presented the information. It was the outlets that you wanted to take the initiative. As for your point about knowing the source, I would not think the source in this case is relevant as to forming an opinion on whether or not the outlet is doing the job you want it to do. You are not looking at the reliability of the guest's opinion. If you were, I'd agree that you'd need to know the source. The validity of the source's statement that a lot more died in previous wars is not at issue here. Your issue is whether the outlets are making that information available to viewers.
