If the USA does things right, there's no reason to think it would be better to have people poor than rich.

But I don't think China ever had capitalist tendencies. It was always a dominance hierarchy tribal megalomaniac confiscatory society. I doubt that they will be freedom lovers any time soon.

Nor is the USA population a rounding error in China's. There are 300 million people in the USA/Canada. There are 1,300 million in China. China is only 4 times the population of USA. If avian flu kills half of them, that will even things up.
