HOUSTON (Dow Jones)--U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil and gas volumes shut-in as a result of recent storms recovered slightly Tuesday, according to data released by the federal Minerals Management Service.

Some 564,229 barrels of oil a day, or 37.6% of Gulf oil output, remained off-line, an MMS release said, down from 39.6% on Monday. The recovery amounts to approximately 30,000 barrels of oil a day coming back on-line.

Shut-in natural gas volumes stood at 2.99 billion cubic feet a day, or 30% of daily gas production, a minimal improvement over 30.6% on Monday.

Cumulative oil production shut-in since Aug. 26 - when Hurricane Katrina triggered the first wave of evacuations in the Gulf - reached 95.33 million barrels on Tuesday, or 17.4% of yearly Gulf crude oil output.

Total lost natural gas production amounted to 492.37 billion cubic feet, or 13.5% of the region's annual gas output.

About 132 platforms remained evacuated, one fewer than Monday.

Trotsky quotes someone who purports to know what Rice "intends" to tell the Europeans. I can't see how this can be sufficient basis to connect her "mindset" with Hitler and the Reichstag fire. I think Mr. "t" this time gave in to an impulse to overstate his case... ;)

"Faced with European demands that the United States explain a newspaper report that secret detention centers to interrogate terrorism suspects were located in two unnamed east European countries, Rice intends to remind the Europeans that they are in a joint fight against an enemy that she says obeys no laws."

Ok, so now the adminstration is saying that we did not go to Iraq to stop Sadam from making weapon of mass destruction. We went to Iraq to stop Sadam from torturing his people.

So what is all this news?

-- Former CIA director Stansfield Turner has labeled Dick Cheney a "vice president for torture."

cnn.com

-- Prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib prison

-- Four U.S. soldiers face discipline for burning Taliban bodies
contracostatimes.com

-- Iraqi Interior Ministry prison abuse - report

iranfocus.com

-- US used white phosphorus in Iraq (THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED CHEMICAL WEAPON BECAUSE US did not agree)

news.bbc.co.uk

-- CIA Holds Terror Suspects in Secret Prisons

washingtonpost.com

And then we ask why the people from the middle east hate us gov so much?
