When I was working for Club Fed in D.C. there was a part of the annual evaluation report where my manager was supposed to gauge my "Ability To Work Independently" on a scale of 1 to 4.

I got a "2" on account of I was working "too independently." I pointed out that should qualify me for a "4" with an offsetting ding on another part of the report if so merited, but the logic did not prevail.

So for my next review in order to qualify for high marks in "Ability To Work Independently" I had to make a concerted effort to work less independently.

I knew I was in the wrong job when three weeks in I got a lecture on the proper use of a paper clip. It was office policy for the shorter part of the clip to face the reader, with the longer part hidden in back. God knows how I got through life thinking a paper clip was just a paper clip.
