That was different. he/she wanted to grow breasts, Alan didn't. It was one of the reasons he committed suicide.

Of course, Alan was foolish. He thought that just because he had helped save the Allies butt in WWII, which he certainly helped quite a bit, they would ignore his personal foibles like many of the upper class had theirs ignored. He was wrong.
