That is a very sad story of a philospher who taught the Iliad to Cadets because he belived it encompassed all there is in war. He discovered war was not so easily experienced as read from neat, organized chapters that might be perused when time allotted. He was correct, the Iliad does have everything in it, but in reality all the pages are in play at the same time. No page turning. By all accounts he was well liked. Like Mr. Chips.
