I believe the guy who said this is thinking along the same lines as the Bush administration:

"I believe that Murtha's theory is that we are acting as a lightning rod, attracting people to attack American soldiers. I hope he's right. I'd much rather fight a war in the Middle East than in the Midwest. If we leave Iraq, now, the product of the schools of hatred in Saudi Arabia will come here instead of Iraq. They will link up with the Muslim population in the US which has also been carefully taught to hate Americans, and begin attacking us here. In fact, I'm amazed it hasn't begun already."

In Iraq we are fighting Syrians, Jordanians, Iranians, Saudis, you name it. We are fighting them on someone elses territory, far from our soil, using our best trained (volunteer army) soldiers, with the best equipment we can provide (which often isn't saying much).

I disagree with his last few comments. Dearborn Michigan, which is nearby, has one of the largest muslim populations in the US. The folks there are decidedly pro US, and many came here to escape persecution or murder. They understand what is going on in the middle east. They aren't thrilled by it, but they understand. I seriously doubt terrorists would be able to mix in US muslim society for very long without being turned in.
