I was trying to get you to look at your generalization when it applies to a necessary program.

I wasn't generalizing in the sense of asserting that the tactic is always a good idea. I was just saying that there is nothing inherently evil about the tactic and it might have better results than the normal practice in congress.

You apparently where generalizing attacking the tactic rather than a specific application of it. Than it appeared to me that you were supporting this generalization by pointing out one specific application where it might not be a good idea.

If your point was that the tactic can be bad in practice than I understand the relevance of the example to your point, but not the relevance of your point to mine. I would also agree with your point.

If your point was that it is universally bad than I disagree both with the point and the idea that the example was relevant to the point.
