The Iraqis will never succeed in being a democratic nation because they did not have to fight for it and hence they will not fight to keep it either.

Chin, do you see your own country of birth receding back to being a Kingdom again?....... but I won't rub that in.<g>

Besides what do you think the Iraqis are doing right now. Why too do you think it took almost a year to start training Iraqi troops. Would we want to put the Iraqi army in the hands of just any Iraqi general?

Democracy springs forth through dissatisfaction with the status quo. It's not hard to be dissatisfied when your country is being run by a man that murders anyone that comes in his way. A man whos son could arrest rape and murder your family with no consequence.

Before and during the American revolution, the entire population of the colonies didn't fight for democracy either. Maine was ready to form its own country, just as the Sunni populace would no doubt like to do. The royalist were very strong in New York and wanted nothing to do with a revolution...... That feeling carried on to a lesser extent through the revolution.
