Intel: no plans to work with foundries

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Unlike its main rival, Intel Corp. on Wednesday (Nov. 30) said that it has no plans to outsource its leading-edge microprocessor lines to a silicon foundry.

Intel has outsourced a small percentage of its chips — such as communications ICs — to the foundries. But the company will continue to build its bread-and-butter processor lines in-house.

“I am not going to teach someone else how to do it,” said Andy Bryant, senior vice president and chief financial officer at Intel, during a presentation here.

Intel’s strategy differs from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), which has recently struck a foundry deal with Singapore’s Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Pte. Ltd. AMD also has various process technology alliances with IBM Corp.

AMD also has its own fabs, including a new 300-mm plant in Dresden, Germany.

The foundries already signaled a better than expected Q1 2006 - to me time to break the pattern (regardless of positive news Intel seems to sell off out 9 out of 10 times).
However most likely INTC will not comment on Q1.

I'm just wondering (concerned) how the option stars are aligned in the option sky -
