FWIW the chimp thing bothers me too- mostly because it weakens (imo) the really good points the left has (I also happen to like chimps, so there is that, too- it's just not fair to the little guys). Then people from the right can say "Look, they're just a bunch of ** lefty **"- and instead of the argument focusing on the facts, both sides dig in to the mud to demonize each other. I just fail to see the point- unless both sides want to alienate the center- which is what seems to be happening. Gosh it's all so frustrating.
