You are mistaken, as your last post reveals. You were called on name calling and that is where substantive discussion stopped. You responded defensively with no contribution to topical discussion in the process. I have seen threads deteriorate into zero topical discussion over this issue that lasted for days and even until the otherwise interesting thread participants left permanently. I am sure you have witnessed the same.

That is the natural consequence of taking the low road among decent folk. It does not win discussions, it ends them inconclusively.

It's not about being offended. It's about stifling communication. If someone calls you an idiot, do you continue to listen to them? Do you want to have a real conversation with them? That does not appear to be the case to me. When one person calls another person an idiot, the response immediately seems to be "Well you're one too."

That's not such a great advancement of issues. I'm sure it advances everyone hating each other, but aside from that advancement, I really don't see the benefits.
