so are you saying your broker allows you to simultaneously have a short and long futures position at the same time, or are you saying you have two different accounts?

the math isn't what i'm wondering about. if you're trading futures, there is no "day trade" classification because all trades are marked-to-market, so if you went long from being short, then your original short at 1270 would've been closed when you initiated your long at 1268.
