This was a good comment as well...

That's the main reason I posted it. It's all well and good to use hyperbole intentionally, for emphasis. The problem is that so many who use it or read it amazingly don't recognize it as hyperbole. It's like cussing. It starts as emphasis and ends up the ubiquitous uni-vocabulary.

The author might "just walk away" to limit his exposure, but the willfully stupid hyperbole keeps doing damage among those it touches.
