If the US military was succeeding in Iraq, if the Iraqis were greeting US troops with flowers on the streets, then why would the US propaganda machine be active and plant false news pieces in Iraqi newspapers?

And you say the Democrats are lying? Say what? Senator John Warner and Patrick Buchanan admitted that "news plants" were rampant in the Iraqi papers. That is they saying and not a Democratic lie.
