HOUSTON -(Dow Jones)- U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil and gas volumes shut-in as a result of recent hurricanes showed little improvement Friday, according to data released by the federal Minerals Management Service.
About 539,074 barrels of oil a day, or 35.9% of Gulf oil output, remained off- line, an MMS release said, a slight recovery from 36.5% on Thursday.
Shut-in natural gas volumes stood at 2.94 billion cubic feet a day, or 29.4% of daily gas production, a minimal improvement over 29.6% on Thursday.
Cumulative oil production shut-in since Aug. 26 - when Hurricane Katrina triggered the first wave of evacuations in the Gulf - reached 97 million barrels Friday, or 17.7% of yearly Gulf crude oil output.
Total lost natural gas production amounted to 501.2 billion cubic feet, or 13.73% of the region's annual gas output.
About 132 platforms remained evacuated, the same as Thursday.
