Excepting Utah and some Western states, the rest of the US is just as corrupt as Louisiana; we're just a lot more open, less furtive, and a hell of a lot more colorful about it. As a result we get more press. And the image therefore follows. But it's total BS to single out Louisiana.

Chicago's politics and judges are probably dicier than NO's.

Texas?

Florida?

Mississippi?

Tennessee?

Massachusetts?

We lost a huge amount of political talent when Jindal was not elected governor, when Senators Breaux and Johnston retired, and when Billy Tauzin gave up his seat. While Vitter is an unknown quantity, Mary Landrieu is a dolt. The only reason she was elected was that the GOP actually was able to field a candidate who was worse.

Katrina was the result of three perfect storms: the hurricane itself, the perfect storm of combined state and federal incompetence that accompanied its aftermath, and the perfect political storm our own officials have created.

As a result, NO is screwed.

It's a damned shame.
