I use people's alias rather than their "real" name because of anonymity issues like cyber stalkers and identity theft. I figure if posters want to use their "real" name they'll do so, and some do. One of the things you may not realize is how many lurkers read these threads and never post, except the occasional PM. Makes me a little nervous when I think about it. It's especially true on the stock threads, where it makes sense that professional types would monitor investment issues without posting, for ethical reasons, for liability reasons, and to refrain from blurring roles. Maybe those types wander over to the coffee shop just for laughs once in a while, I dunno.
