To require people from a different country to instantly assimilate is not realistic. Many choose to live in a "cloistered" community. They socialize with people of similar culture and who speak the same language and who have similar non verbal cues. The second generation generally assimilates. They tend to have one foot rooted in each culture.

Some immigrants eschew their native cultures and attempt to assimilate much more rapidly. These tend to be the most economically productive members, and being able to communicate to the majority is an essential element of their success.

I do agree that we need to be wary of cloisters of any migrant population that attempts to shield their youth from assimilation. We also need to remain wary of groups that teach their member that everyone but them must die or be enslaved.

Our ancestors left the lands of their ancestors and migrated to a place that had more opportunities. Some of the immigrants are still coming for these reasons. If it were possible to develop a screening tool to detect this, it might work for a short time. The criminals would immediately work to subvert it.

I am a proponent of increasing legal immigration.
