"One nation under God" does not mean any particular interpretation of God, what God means or which religion God favors, assuming God exists and actually has an opinion. If it had been "One Nation under Christ" that would be much different. Then we could just debate whether a real Christian is a selfish, materialistic corporate crony type who pushes for tax breaks for the rich, cuts in help to the poor, more pollution, more war and less unity, truth and tolerance. As it is, we must take the Founding Fathers at their word, that not only must we stop powerful churches from invading government and dictating their morals, but under the law we are all equal, no matter what our religious or spiritual beliefs, if any.
