"They just don't know what to do." I'd imagine they wish there was some way they could lose Bush! He's not ALL of the problem, but he certainly gives everyone a focus. Nothing he does makes anything better - everything just makes things progressively worse for the Republicans.

The GOP will be forced to start over without the white collar criminals, tons of lobbyist money, chickenhawks and polluters in charge. In other words, they need an entire new party. GOP moderates are strong now. They're the only ones who are certain to hang onto power. All the GOP rightwingers including the congressional and senate leadership are likely to be booted out of office next year. And Bush-Cheney and almost their entire staff are all in jeopardy of either indictment or impeachment. What goes around comes around, huh? They will reap what they have sown. That said, it's entirely possible a Republican will win in 2008, but a more moderate one like McCain. Dems can recapture congress but have their work cut out for them to beat McCain, assuming the rightwing nominates him instead of smearing him again.
