Saddam was afraid of Al Qaida, an enemy of his. This has all come out recently. Contrary to Bush-Cheney claims (and they knowingly lied about this) there was no cooperation between the secular Saddam government and the Islamic extremist Al Qaida. Saddam had a long record of persecuting Islamic fundamentalists. That's why the Reagan administration backed him against Iran in the 80's. Though they also sold arms to Iran, of course.

Every single Bush-Cheney claim about Iraqi-Al Qaida connections has now been debunked, and no one in the Bush administration would dare make those claims anymore. But you do. Why? Do you actually believe that crap, or it is just help with the overall cover-up?
