It is a perfect storm. And the Republicans have arranged for themselves being the sole targets.

You're right again.......I was at the gym just now and they were talking about all the documents that went back and forth between Blanco's office and Bush during Katrina. Incredibly, Bush's office, in addition to FEMA, didn't react no matter how desperately Blanco couched her pleas. At one point, Blanco had written Bush a strident letter stating that FEMA was not performing and a couple of days letter the WH contacted her saying that while they saw the letter on her site, they needed the hard copy in order to process it and then take action. It turns out that Blanco had handed the letter personally to Bush. Its a disgrace esp. when you remember Bush playing his banjo in San Diego.

I am unclear whether it was incompetence or partisanship because Blanco is a Dem. but it's clear the lion's share of the blame for the Katrina screwup rests with FEMA AND the WH/Bush. Its very hard to hear this BS knowing that people were suffering.
