There are a great number of Lawyers whose application of ethics codes is somewhat more loose that might be desired. Before you get too upset though try to remember that they are paid to represent the interests of their client. Sometimes what appears from your perspective to be unethical, may not be.

That being said, a lawyer advising their client to lie under oath would be disbarred it it was proven.

Some times an attorney may advise you to do things much differently than you may believe prudent. They are not emotionally attached to the case, and are expected to prevent their clients from being blinded by emotion.

There are also many fine upstanding attorneys practicing.

I hope you have an excellent, honest and ethical attorney now.
