Intel 'Firing All Its Guns' At AMD

The analyst wrote, "With two brand new 65nm fabs already in operation, a third coming up shortly and a fourth announced (in Israel) for 2007, Intel is firing all its guns at upstart Advanced Micro Devices, which today holds strong performance leadership in x86."

"Moreover, demand is turning out better than nearly anyone predicted two to three years ago."

The upcoming financial outlook could take Intel shares "higher than we'd have thought just a couple months ago."

RE: Mech eng = med devices

That's certainly better than what was being taught in engineering school when I was a freshman - I checked out mech eng but decided against it when the profs (all males of course) were too focused on auto speed/performance projects rather than something much more interesting like auto safety (or medical devices). I wouldn't have been on equal footing if I had entered that dept with those types of male-dominated topics for projects. Biomed has grown since - an exciting field and they are (finally) doing auto safety research projects at the grad level involving computer technology etc. Engineering is much more interesting today.
