Ali, RE: You hopelessly lack of understanding of what a researcher work is.

I disagree.

No one is forcing a real researcher to stay in the lab overnight, it comes with the job, it is an internal necessity. A real researcher cannot simply close his computer application and go home to watch a game, a real researcher is occupied by a desire to solve a problem, it sometimes takes 24/7 for many weeks to find a solution or see a connection within data or theory. It takes a toll on their personal lives.

Just because you happen to know somebody that doesn't have any perspective or balance in life doesn't mean that everyone is that way.

For this reason most people cannot be "trained" to be a researcher, in contrast to training engineers, machinists, accountants.

Agreed. Though I think that you underestimate the natural ability that is necessary to be a good engineer

I think you've "got it" Ali. My son isnt FORCED to stay in the lab by any human, its his own innate DESIRE to solve a problem or uncover a truth. He's driven from within in the search of knowledge, has been all his life. jdn
