Moose, if left to themselves they'd continue on their current course of confrontation with the west no matter what. What we've done in Iraq is to speed up the process which IMO isn't bad thing. It's one thing that fundamentalist have a culture that we as westerners have trouble understanding, that in itself is not a problem. The problem is the Mullahs, the madrasses, wahabiism in general. When religious leaders use their influence to incite hatred, intolerance and violence then they've stepped over the line. When their followers find that they can't live under the protection of the Mullahs then either the Mullahs will reverse their course or be faced with ever dwindling numbers of followers.

It's beyond my understanding why they persist in such archaic thinking when the evidence that they would benefit from change is all around them. I guess it's just a matter of who is in power and wants to keep it that way.

They still think that they can win. With Irans clumsy attempts to obtain nuclear weapons they're going to find out they're wrong.
