Re: "Your approach was already tried, and resulted in Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. And we all know what happened after that."

Are you NUTS?

NOTHING I've said has ANY RELATION to a Dictator invading another nation.

Sheesh, that is NOT 'my approach'!

"Unless you can draw lines for each group that wants both sovereignty and oil,"

Well, I can't draw those lines... neither can the United States (but the local contending groups in Iraq sure can).

There is nothing magic about the current national boundaries of 'Iraq' anyway.

The place was ARTIFICIALLY put together by Churchill and Lawrence of Arabia one afternoon in England (over a whole lot of drinks).

They stitched together THREE SEPARATE Ottoman Empire provinces in an effort to come up with a weak 'nation' that would be internally divisive and thus easy for foreigners (the British) to control and exploit.

But it didn't work very well... it took a Dictator to hold it together. Turns out the locals hated foreigners even more then they hated each other.
