The fact that it gets 50.01% of the vote doesn't change its nature. Democracy is a better method that having some king or dictator get to decide everything. But a democracy, even a direct democracy that voted on every issue, doesn't make me the government or the government me. We are separate entities even those each has some influence over the other.

I guess you feel alienated from "the government," that it's an entity you don't belong to.

This is a good example of the type of strategy in use by the current Republican leadership. They so want government to go away that they actively seek the kind of debt that will cripple it's function.
