By promoting biodiesel as a substitute, we have missed the fact that it is worse than the fossil-fuel burning it replaces

guardian.co.uk

There is something wrong in the numbers quoted. Biomass already uses some 20 percent of world's energy needs. This is not counted in many statistics as the use is local and thus hard to measure. Hence the 20 percent is rough estimate. But, to put the biomass generation to 1/400 of energy use cannot be correct.

I firmly believe though that trying to substitute bio-diesel for vanishing oil supply is madness, as we need the farmland to fee the people and not for driving to malls to keep the economy going. The best think the new fed chairman can do is to cause a prolonged recession or even an economic depression. That is the only way people will change their ways. Greenspan may well have sowed the seeds for this inadvertently.

Mish, great piece. I love the idea of making coal pollution free. We've got lots of coal. At the same time, I think there should be more research on Black Lung and other coal mining diseases and more innovation in making the mining safer.

Duke Cunningham got something from government spending and now he's in trouble. It's really too bad. He was a war hero and his Republican politics just turned him corrupt in no time. It was fun to watch him cry, but I hate to see our heroes turn crook on us. Again! BTW, the Duke was the sleazos front man for sliming Kerry's ethics in the service. <VBG> But they soon found that The Swift Boat Liars were more effective.
