My daughter had the misfortune of having an erupting tooth come in with a severe cavity that required a root canal. It's not fun for a 12 yo to get a root canal.

As I said the "focal theory" is not accepted by the dental profession as a whole. What is clear though is that there are many studies to indicate root canal therapy cannot eliminate all bacteria present and cannot "smooth" out all the tubules present. I do wish I could find the article I read last year that reviewed new radiological techniques that had conclusively demonstrated a previously unrecognized level of complexity in the miles of tubules contained within the canal. Thus making it clear that cleaning of the root cavity was not as simple as thought.

By no means would I advocate that others dismiss endodontic therapy outright. I personally chose to use it and I subsequently chose to reject it. I am happy with my decision. If one considers the dental profession's dogmatic adherence to the benefits of putting mercury in people's mouths, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, I find the industry's credibility to be at question. Embracing change is difficult for any such huge industry.

Cheers,
Ogi
