I think this is true... I honestly don't think our generation can grasp what total war was all about.

My Dad lost his cousin in WWII. And the family for a long time thought that the cousin had gone down with the Arizona. In fact, Dad's Uncle spent a good deal of money, and a large amount of time trying to find out what happened to the cousin. His Uncle died without finding out.

Turns out, today, we know what happened to him....and where...He was on the USS Houston.

"In night action, Sunda Strait, Feb 28, 1942, USS Houston steamed to her death in a desperate attack with HMASS Perth against an entire Japanese Battle Fleet. It was over by 12:40 AM March 1.

Dad's cousin is listed on the Crew. Over 1000 men died in that short few hours.
