I can't stand the fake corks because the wine openers don't work so well with them.

In the long run, I will probably end up liking the screw caps. Just give people time to get over the Mogen David aspect.

Synthetic corks wreck bloody hell with my Screwpull opener. They strip the silicon film that cuts through cork so nicely. Really fine corks cost a fortune (up to $2 each to the winery) and really are impractical given the world wide increase in wine consumption and enjoyment.

I am not put off by the screw top. I think it is great for most wines. I would be disappointed to see it on a first growth bordeaux or a fine brunello. There needs to be a little ceremony when you are throwing down $100 plus for a bottle. I can't imagine using a church key to open my Winston Churchill on New Years Eve.

Natural cork. I don't wear plastic either. It allows the wine to breath just a little.
