The election law conspiracy charge was the lesser of the charges, so it was not a victory for DeLay to have the lesser charge thrown out while facing 5-Life for the money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering charges. DeLay is still facing heavy charges. Note that the election law conspiracy charge was thrown out not because DeLay was innocent of that charge nor because of lack of evidence on that charge - in a rare moment of lucidity Coulter acknowledges that a trial finds guilt or innocence - but because conspiring to violate state election laws was apparently NOT a crime in Texas prior to 2003 . Gotta love those lawful states that execute people at a steady clip while not bothering to add a law disallowing conspiracy to violate election law until a couple of years ago. And take a look at some of the arguments that DeLay tried to use to get out of the other charges. Things like you can't launder money unless you use cash - since DeLay used a check and not cash, it can't be money laundering! Or, because they kited the money through a couple of banks, it somehow didn't count! What a guy! Coulter conveniently skips all this damning stuff because, well, it doesn't serve her purpose, which is apparently to shield a felon from the law. But that's ok, cause the felon is on her side, and heck, writing such tripe seems to bring happiness to people who don't think too sharply or dig too deeply. And keeps her coming back to FOX News, publishing and spewing trash, and raking in the dough.
