Oh, he won't spend that much on a bottle of wine, but if you go to a nice place and have some hors d'ouvres and an entree and some wine and leave a decent tip it does add up, no?

Especially here in the DC metro area. The prices for everything are so high.

Not as bad as New York or LA but in that league.

Even just a hand-tossed pizza and a microbrew is pricey compared to Pizza Hut and Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I think a lot of people on SI are the penny-squeezing types that have tons of money in the bank but hate to "waste" a nickle on something frivolous. Nothing wrong with that, it's the way you get rich.

I wish we saved more but at least we don't have much debt. My husband just doesn't have the penny-pinching gene. Nor do I, really.
