I don't think it's a left or right thing. There are rightwingers who believe in black helicopters filled with blue helmeted UN troops. It's not government but this particular administration and especially in this particular war. This is the administration who originally said it didn't count Iraqi dead but now uses the Vietnam era dead-insurgent, dead-jihadist count to illustrate progress. This is the administration who said the mission was accomplished, major combat operations were over, Fallujah was won, etc. etc. It makes more sense to not believe anything it says unless there's a second believable source.
