I believe that the people born from about 1955 forward really don't know much about WWII, unless they have made a decision to actually watch the Military Channel on Cable and/or read several books by the participants in WWII. They certainly don't teach much about it in any of the grades in school.

Those of us who were born before 1955, most probably had parents or grandparents who either were in the war, or knew those who were.

When we were attacked Dec 7, 1941 in Pearl Harbor, we had 138,000+ in the military. At the end of the war, we had over 16+ Million people enlisted.
